It seems strange to us, but people have asked us why we even like to travel! They reason that you can spend your money on tangible items which will last much longer than the trip you take. Perhaps this is why less than 20% of all US citizens do not even have a passport. Our take is that the experiences we have, the new ideas we are exposed to, the history we learn and the culture we enjoy not only create everlasting memories but also help shape our view of the world.

Let's face it - travel is difficult today. There are lines at check-in, lines at security, lines to get on the plane and lines to pick up your bags. If you are flying internationally, there are even lines waiting to get into your destination country, and to make matters worse, more lines waiting to get back into your home country! So why bother? Partly because of the lines. For one, we enjoy showing the bad guys that we will not be blackmailed into changing our lifestyle. And also because we still find that every trip gives a little better understanding of a new culture that makes it seem a little less foreign.

The founders of "The Savvy Traveler" have lived in the US, Europe and the UK. The experience gained during this time has provided us with a wealth of in depth information that we have shared with friends and relatives over the years. Now we can share it with you. With a focus on the UK and Europe, we can help you make the most of your vacation with the least effort and cost. Often friends call us and say we are going to a specific European city for x number of days, what should we do, where should we go and how should we do it. We send off a detailed email and off they go. We always find it gratifying to get an email back on their return, telling us that by following our advice closely they had the best vacation ever!

So, rather than be put off by all the difficulties of today's travel, we decided to focus on the positive and create some detailed excursions you can use now. That's what this website is all about. Whether you are a seasoned traveller or a baby boomer embarking on that dream trip abroad, we hope that "The Savvy Traveler" will give you all of the information and tools you need to book that best vacation ever. After years of many types of vacations, we have found that one way to make travel simpler in today's troubled world is to focus on smaller areas and venture out from there with day trips. And if you have time to couple multiple areas together, that's great too. So you will notice when we cover an area, we usually plant ourselves in a picturesque spot and venture out from there for the next 3 or 4 days. But for those of you who have to keep moving, we will suggest favorite spots to stay, and eat, as we move around from day to day as well.
